🔴 Imbroglio in the Port Explosion file turns into drama
Judge Tarek Al-Bitar, who resumed work on the Port Explosion file after a 13-month halt, freed 5 of 12 pretrial detainees & prosecuted 8 others. His position of investigative judge in Lebanon's French-inspired civil-law system allows him great freedom to decide on warrants & pretrial detention.
Yet, one of the newly prosecuted turns out to be Prosecutor-General Ghassan Oweidat (Cassation Court Prosecutor), who now sued Al-Bitar—barring him from continuing with the probe. At least 18 lawsuits and a recusal request over legality & politicization accusations have been filed against the judge.
🍒 Eventually, the Security Forces' General Directorate ordered all units not to implement any decision taken by Judge Tarek Al-Bitar.

⋯ Judge Al-Bitar has been charged by Public Prosecutor Oweidat with the crimes of Article 306, i.e. usurpation of authority, and Articles 375, 376 and 377, i.e. exercising functions after being desisted, executing tasks against one's own duties, and misusing the power derived from one's own position. ⋯ Uncoincidentally, Al-Bitar had met with a delegation of two French judges assigned to a French investigation into the explosion, in his office at the Palace of Justice in Beirut, only a week prior. The US Embassy of Beirut also expressed their support for his recent actions.

⋯ This blatant foreign interference is nothing new, as Al-Akhbar reported as far back as last September that the German Ambassador was leaked saying that “the EU would impose sanctions on any judge who hindered Al-Bitar's investigations.”

⋯ Maybe if the Europeans, especially the French, and the US cared so much about getting justice for the port explosion victims, they'd release the results of their own investigations.
Otherwise, this is merely their attempt at politicizing this tragedy.

In the lastest chapter in this appalling story of traitors, 2-year Hezbullah trainee Hassan A. provided the Israelis with the names and numbers of his colleagues, and gave intel on what he claimed were missile storehouses, for the mere price of $15,000. …
Hassan A. Was Not a Spy
In a correction issued by the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon, they revealed that Hassan Attia contacted the resistance as soon as he realized Israelis had contacted him with a job offer. The resistance followed up, and Attia was very cooperative throughout.
Given this revelation, it's safe to assume all the information he gave the Israeli handler was either useless or bogus, and everything he did was under the resistance's close watch and approval.

⋯ However, with every increase, the Central Bank figured out a way to temporarily cope with the increase, essentially buying time waiting for a political solution.
This time, the Central Bank is rumored to have ran out of temporary solutions — such as dumping dollars on the Sayrafa platform (read more).
