The Israeli army informed the UN that 1.1 million Gazans should evacuate to the south of the strip or else face death due to the upcoming operation.

Austin said “this is no time for neutrality, or for false equivalence, or for excuses of the inexcusable”.

He added: “The US will continue to support Israel's right of self-defence” after being asked on his participation in the war if Hezbollah attacks Israel from the north.
