Brazil's draft resolution urged a “humanitarian pause” while “condemn[ing] the heinous terrorist attacks by Hamas [...] and the taking of hostages”. US Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield vetoed it because “this resolution made no mention of Israel's right of self defense”.
Two proposed Russian amendments were rejected before the final vote: one called for a “humanitarian cease-fire”, the other condemned indiscriminate attacks on “civilian objects” in Gaza, which include hospitals and schools.
