Barrier

Software that mimics the functionality of a KVM #switch, which historically would allow you to use a single #keyboard and #mouse to control multiple computers by physically turning a dial on the box to switch the machine you're controlling at any given moment. Barrier does this in software, allowing you to tell it which machine to control by moving your mouse to the edge of the screen, or by using a keypress to switch focus to a different system.

YouTubeDrive

YouTubeDrive is a Wolfram Language (aka Mathematica) package that encodes/decodes arbitrary data to/from simple RGB videos which are automatically uploaded to/downloaded from YouTube. Since YouTube imposes no limits on the total number or length of videos users can upload, this provides an effectively infinite but extremely slow form of file storage.

YouTubeDrive depends externally on FFmpeg, youtube-upload, and youtube-dl. These programs must be downloaded and installed separately, and prior to first use, YouTubeDrive must be configured with their install locations.

K-9 Mail joins the Thunderbird family

A few weeks ago you might have read that the Thunderbird project is working on a mobile email client. Some of you have mentioned that it might have been a better strategy to support one of the existing open source mail clients on Android instead of creating one. As you may have guessed with the noscript of this post, the Thunderbird project came to the same conclusion. Once a certain level of functionality is reached, K-9 Mail will morph into Thunderbird on Android, and will be renamed accordingly.

Happy to have discovered maps.earth project recently which allows you to self-host your own maps server with place/address search and routing!

The Headway Project was born out of a frustration with the need to send current and future location data to a corporation in order to figure out how we’re getting from A to B. Offline-only maps apps can be frustrating to use, and sometimes suffer from performance problems, poor data coverage, or other technical limitations.

Headway aims to remedy these issues by bundling industry-standard software into a web app that’s easy to set up for yourself or your friends. No need to send your location data to anyone you don’t trust, not even maps.earth.

Ever find something cool on the internet and forget to save it?

In my case I found an alternative repository for Chrome extensions so you wouldn't have to Download it through the Chrome Web Store. Now I'm having a hard time finding it (i have no idea why Google would want to hide it as a result ;)

Thanks to some awesome peeps in the #TBOT XMPP group (tbot@group.chat.above.im) I am going to give buku a try, and start saving more information that crosses my screen.

Buku allows you to save links, tag & organize them. You can do cool things like tag a related group of links, and then open all of them at one time.

There's no tracking, hidden history, obsolete records, usage analytics or homing.

Buku gets around the problem of having multiple incompatible bookmark formats across browsers and provides a standard way to sync bookmarks from any computer. You can even integrate it to save a URL in your clipboard with a keyboard shortcut.

I'll let you know my experiences! And hopefully I find that alternative chrome extension repository I was looking for.
