Guide
Simplest manner to replace /system files (say old version) with the version of our choice:

1. Always keep a original copy of both the files before doing this (in case you need to revert). So older version copied from the system folder and the new file which you want to replace. Operate with a copy made out of these files.
Use any root explorer like X-Plore, Amaze, MixPlore etc. Personally I suggest X-Plore.

2. Rename the new file. e.g, we want to replace system webview with say some other webview application like Bromite webview file, then rename the copy of Bromite to webview.apk and replace the file in the /system/app/webview folder.

3. The file will have a permission level of 644 and the folder will have 755. Check these details before replacing in case they are different.
644 = rw-, r--, r--
755= rwe, r-e, r-e

4. Once done reboot to system, or reboot to sys ui.

5. Now install the new file as user app. So install Bromite webview file normally. This will install the application as user app.

6. Reboot to system and not sysui.

Done, now you are having Bromite webview as your system webview.

This helps people who want lesser ads or webviews with more options. This way people wanting privacy first can be at a peace too.

The example of webview was used for illustration purpose to explain how to replace system files and use them forward.

First you will want to plug in your usb key. Then type in lsblk (blkid on termux), it will show you all the devices on the machine

You don't need to format the USB, dd will take care of that

Imagine that it's a 4gb stick, and it is located at /dev/sdx (according to lsblk/blkid):

sudo dd if=Linux.iso of=/dev/sdx bs=4M

Once it's done, you just run the command 'sync' to make sure that the usb key is ready

Notes:
In Android it may appear as /dev/block/sdg

Be careful to never ever use of=/dev/block/sde or sda (if those are important partitions in your android device)

The bs=4M part makes it go 4mb at a time instead of bit by bit. if= is for the input file, of= is for output "file"

An ad blocker that uses the hosts file. The hosts file contains a list of mappings between hostnames and IP addresses. When an app requests an ad, that request is directed to 127.0.0.1 which does nothing. There are options to run a web server to respond to blocked hostnames and to direct requests to the IP address of your choosing. You can download hosts files from the app but it is possible to use your own and to add certain sites to the white- and black-lists.

Requires root: Yes. The hosts files is located in /system which is normally read-only.
