The Alliance Cinema will host a screening of Chemin de Terre, a documentary by filmmaker Simon Desjobert, on Tuesday, 20 May 2025 at 6 p.m., followed by a discussion with the director.
The film follows workers Goshou, Berhanu, and Basha as they maintain an aging train that travels through the Ethiopian desert, highlighting their efforts amid the looming replacement by a newly constructed electrified railway built by China.
Desjobert, trained in creative documentary at the University of Évry, previously co-directed Hana’s Spring, a film about public expression during Egypt’s revolutionary period, which was selected for the Cinéma du Réel festival in 2013. He also leads collaborative creative workshops with various communities.
