Ethiopian athletes shined at the Amsterdam Marathon on 20 October 2024. Yalemzerf Yehualaw won the women’s race in 2:16:52, breaking the previous record set by Almaz Ayana two years ago. Haven Hailu followed in second place with a time of 2:19:29.

In the men’s race, Gegeye Getachew secured first place with a time of 2:05:38, repeating his victory from two years ago. Boki Asafa finished closely behind in 2:05:40, taking second.

Sheikh Mohammed Al-Amoudi is engaged in a legal battle, seeking to recover over 852 million ETB allegedly donated to various government institutions and officials without his consent.

According to court documents, the funds were transferred to the bank account of his representative, Mr. Abinet Gebremeskel, between 2004 and 2013, including 75 million ETB given to the Prosperity Party.

Sheikh Al-Amoudi claims that these donations were made without his authorization, arguing that he did not intend for the funds to be used as gifts. The Federal Supreme Court, during a hearing on 15 October 2024, ruled that Mr. Abinet must return the funds along with interest.
