The Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration has announced fuel price adjustments, raising gasoline prices by 11.3% to 101.47 birr per liter and diesel by 9.6% to 98.98 birr per liter, effective Tuesday night in Addis Ababa. The changes are part of the government’s gradual effort to phase out costly fuel subsidies, which currently cost nearly 100 billion birr annually while cushioning consumers from steep global oil prices.
Under the new structure, kerosene matches diesel at 98.98 birr per liter, jet fuel rises to 109.56 birr, heavy black diesel costs 105.97 birr, and light black diesel is priced at 108.30 birr. These adjustments come as the country struggles with inflation and foreign currency shortages.
