Ethiopia’s English Proficiency in 2025 Reported by EF EPI

A new fact sheet from the 2025 EF English Proficiency Index (EF EPI) shows Ethiopia ranked 65th globally, with a national score of 499, above the worldwide average of 488.

The report breaks down skill performance, showing higher scores in reading (525) and lower scores in writing (460), with listening and speaking in between. The index also includes demographic trends by age and gender.

The EF EPI ranks countries and regions based on adult English proficiency.

Netflix to Produce AFCON Documentary

Netflix and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have announced a partnership to broadcast the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations currently being held Morocco. This partnership includes the production of a documentary film focused on the tournament.

The film will offer an in-depth look at AFCON 2025 capturing key moments, behind-the-scenes access and the broader atmosphere of the event. Alongside the documentary, Netflix will also stream daily highlights for audiences in the Sub-Saharan Africa region.

Update: In observance of the passing of artist Netsanet Workineh, the release of the EDTM album, originally scheduled for today, has been postponed to a later date.

The genre bending ETDM album Vol.1 will be released today evening at 8:00 PM. Pioneered by Temesgen Melese, also known as Lij Temesgen, the 13-track album features sounds from 17 Ethiopian cultures, blending traditional music with modern EDM.

In a dramatic conclusion to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Senegal secured their second continental noscript with a gritty 1–0 extra-time victory over Morocco on 18 January, 2026.

Following a scoreless regulation period marked by intense controversy including a temporary walk-off by Senegalese players in protest of a late penalty, goalkeeper Édouard Mendy became the hero saving a stoppage-time Panenka attempt from Brahim Díaz to force the match into extra time. The deadlock was broken in the 94th minute with Pape Gueye's powerful left-footed strike, silencing Rabat's home crowd of over 66,000.

Despite a relentless late push from Morocco's Atlas Lions, the Senegalese Teranga Lions stood firm to reclaim their status as the kings of African football.
