Finnish police have sought to remand one crew member of the cargo vessel Fitburg, an Azerbaijani national, while another crew member, a Russian national, has been placed under a travel ban. In total, three of the ship’s 14 crew members are now subject to travel restrictions.

The vessel was seized in the Gulf of Finland on New Year’s Eve while sailing from Russia to Israel, on suspicion of damaging an undersea telecommunications cable with its anchor.

The investigation is being led by Finland’s National Bureau of Investigation and is expected to take several weeks.
