Speaking on Monday, Olaf #Scholz ( 🤡 )– whose grouping is on course to gain the most seats from the weekend Bundestag elections – said that Kiev’s role in transporting gas must not be undermined by the Moscow-backed project.

“With regard to the pipeline, the construction of which has been completed, it is important for everyone to take into account the guarantees that are associated with its operation. These guarantees include the fact that #Ukraine must remain a transit country,” #Scholz ( 🤡 ) said.

A number of countries have raised concerns about the impact of Nord Stream 2, which was completed earlier this month. It is now awaiting certification by German regulators before it begins pumping gas from Siberia to consumers in the West.

In June, Ukrainian president Volodymyr #Zelensky ( 🤡 )claimed that the pipeline could cost Ukraine around $3 billion annually, if Russia’s state energy giant Gazprom no longer needs to pay to move supplies through its network of Soviet-built overland pipes.

“Nord Stream 2 will disconnect Ukraine from gas supplies, which means ‘disconnecting’ us from at least $3 billion a year,” he said.

“We will have nothing to pay for the Ukrainian Army.”

Credit Suisse’s Zurich Offices Raided in Greensill Capital Collapse Probe

Police raided Credit Suisse Group AG offices in Zurich and confiscated documents as part of an investigation into whether investors in funds it ran with Greensill Capital were misled, complicating efforts by the Swiss bank to move past the damaging scandal.

Last week’s search comes after a criminal complaint in April by Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, or Seco, for violations of a law against unfair competition, which deals with issues such as false or misleading advertising.

A spokesman for the public prosecutor in Zurich confirmed that proceedings had been opened against an “exponent” of Greensill as well as unknown persons.

While neither the bank nor current or former employees are persons of interest in the investigation, the “unknown persons” classification gives prosecutors looking into the matter more leeway to name more people or corporate entities as they progress with their investigation.

Documents from Credit Suisse could help prosecutors determine whether the case is valid and who to prosecute.

I’ve been saying for a long time that aircraft carriers are just history’s most expensive floating targets, and that they were doomed.

But now I can tell you exactly how they’re going to die. I’ve just read one of the most shocking stories in years.

It comes from the US Naval Institute, not exactly an alarmist or anti-Navy source. And what it says is that the US carrier group is scrap metal.

The #Chinese military has developed a ballistic missile, Dong Feng 21, specifically designed to kill US aircraft carriers:

“Because the missile employs a complex guidance system, low radar signature and a maneuverability that makes its flight path unpredictable, the odds that it can evade tracking systems to reach its target are increased. It is estimated that the missile can travel at mach 10 and reach its maximum range of 2000km in less than 12 minutes.”

That’s the US Naval Institute talking, remember.

They’re understating the case when they say that, with speed, satellite guidance and maneuverability like that, “the odds that it can evade tracking systems to reach its target are increased.

You know why that’s an understatement?


Because of a short little sentence I found farther on in the article—and before you read that sentence, I want all you trusting Pentagon groupies to promise me that you’ll think hard about what it implies.

Here’s the sentence: “Ships currently have no defense against a ballistic missile attack".

Three More Companies in #China Join #Evergrande – Unable to Meet Debt Obligations – Total Debt of Nearly Half a Trillion USD Facing Solvency Issues in China

Today we can report that the Evergrande situation is spreading.

A company by the name of Jumbo Fortune had a $260 million note coming due on October 3, 2021, that it says was backed by Evergrande.

However, #Evergrande apparently didn’t record this liability on its books. We have no word that this has yet been settled.

Earlier this morning two other companies in the China real estate business were identified in situations just like #Evergrande.

Putin Talks About Energy

For anyone wondering why energy
prices have risen so sharply over the last few weeks Russian President Vladimir #Putin provided a reasonable explanation when he addressed the #energy issue in a video conference.

His comments provide an interesting (and IMHO: more plausible) alternative to the usual Media accusations of manipulation by #Russia of energy markets :

"Now, the world economy is recovering well after the past year’s crisis. The demand for energy is growing and, hence, prices are soaring.

"As you know, the global energy market does not tolerate hectic moves and vagaries. Investment plans in this area are long-term. Therefore, any abrupt and rash actions may lead, and, judging by the current market situation, are already leading to serious imbalances like those we are seeing in the European market that has been affected this year by several unfavourable factors all at once.

"First, the rapid post-crisis recovery of the economy has 'heated up' the energy demand.

"Second, gas reserves in many European countries’ underground storage facilities dwindled as a result of the harsh winter in early 2021. I am referring precisely to their underground gas storage facilities, the underground storage facilities of our European partners.

"Third, the production of wind energy declined noticeably later in the summer because of hot and windless weather. It should also be taken into consideration that the energy balance has changed dramatically in Europe over the past ten years.

Many countries in the region have given up their coal-burning and nuclear power plants in favour of wind power generation that is heavily dependent on weather conditions.

"And, finally, fourth, the practices of our European partners [are to blame].

These practices have reaffirmed that, properly speaking, they have made mistakes. We were talking with the former European Commission; all of its activities were aimed at curtailing the so-called long-term contracts and at transitioning to gas exchange trading.

"It turned out – and today this is absolutely obvious – that this policy is erroneous, erroneous for the reason that it fails to take into account the gas market specifics dependent on a large number of uncertainty factors.

Consumers, including, for example, fertiliser producers, are losing all price benchmarks. All of this is leading to failures and, as I said, imbalances.

"As a result, the gas price has broken all historical records. Today it is approaching $2,000 per thousand cubic metres of gas, which is over ten times last year’s average price. "
