Thousands of Brazilians in the capital Sao Paulo are rising against the threat of a right-wing coup. The protests erupt amid fears that Brazil’s right-wing President Jair Bolsonaro won’t accept the October elections results.

Thousands gathered at the University of Sao Paulo, where the “Letter to Brazilians in defense of the democratic” was read, an anecdote to the “Letter to Brazilians” of 1977, symbolizing the struggle against the dictatorship.

Like former U.S. President Donald Trump, Bolsonaro warns of “possible manipulation” of the elections without evidence. In addition, the murder of a Workers Party member, the party of Lula da Silva, by a Bolsonaro supporter sparked fear of further political violence.

The left-wing opposition candidate Lula has a double-digit lead over Bolsonaro in current polls. Lula is supported by 47% of the respondents, Bolsonaro only by 29%, according to the institute Datafolha.

Today in 2017, 32-year-old anti-racist activist Heather Heyer was killed in Charlottesville, U.S. by a white supremacist who drove his car into a rally of anti-racist counter-protesters.

In Bolivia she worked as a spy in the capital and later joined Che Guevara’s revolutionary guerrilla army. She was killed by the CIA-backed Bolivian Army.

A video shows police attacking and hurling racist insults at a couple of migrant background in front of their children in the German capital, Berlin.

The police officers, in the family home of the couple, throw a man on the ground in front of his wife and children as he shouts at them. One officer says: "This is my country, you are only a guest here". Despite the screams of a small child, the police officer continues insulting and threatening the man’s wife, saying: “You are going to lie next to him…I'm going to put you in jail".

Following the attack, the couple filed a complaint for assault and battery, according to a police report. The officers involved had already filed their own complaint: for resistance, assault and attempted release of prisoners. This is a common tactic used by the German police to deter victims of police violence from filing complaints against police.
