Advice on setup

Hi all,

I've got an MSI GF63 thin and I've just plugged in some upgrades, just not sure how to configure it.

I've doubled the RAM, which is fine and has sped it up a chunk.

The thing I don't know what to do with is the 1tb 2.5" SSD. I saw people suggesting it could increase performance, but I'm not sure how to use it to do that.

It has the stock 512gb nvme drive booting it and running windows, so what do I use the 2.5 for? Just storage?

If it helps I mainly use it for 3d modelling

Thanks for your help

Freezing image and sound repeating

Hey guys,

I got myself a new MSI Laptop in december (Katana 17 B13V to be exact) and I've noticed some really annoying freezing once in a while. So I've started playing Fallout New Vegas again after not being able to do so for a long time and I first encountered that issue there. Basically I was in a loading screen and the whole picture just froze and the last sound got repeated endlessly (you probably know what I mean). At first I thought it was the game itself because it's known to be very buggy but later I also encountered that same issue when simply watching a Youtube Video so it has to be the Laptop itself, right? Most of the time when it happened in-game I had to completely close the game as it was stuck indefinitely but with Youtube videos it usually just freezes for a second or two but the sound is driving me insane, especially because I can't imagine a brand new Laptop is supposed to do that. Does anyone know what could be the issue here? I'm not tech savvy at all and don't really know the ins and outs of a PC so I'm pretty desperate to be honest.

Hope you guys can help me in any way.

Laptop in sleep mode

I have an MSI laptop with a Chicoy brand charger, and everything works fine, except for one small problem. I have a simple microphone and an RGB keyboard connected through an Anker USB hub. Everything works perfectly until I put the laptop to sleep, or it goes to sleep on its own after a while. Right then, I don't know if it's a problem with the port or the hub, but the keyboard and microphone keep their RGB lighting on, and I noticed that the charger starts making a noise at that moment. It's the typical "chittering" sound, but intermittent, and the volume is low. Is this normal? Could it damage the charger if I keep leaving it like this?

Higher GPU and CPU temperature after BIOS update - MSI Laptop Vector 16 HX AI A2XWHG-476 - E15M3IMS.116

Title basically. Before the update my GPU barely went above 76°C but now in the most current games (Spiderman 2, Starfield, AC Shadows, Titan Quest 2, Cyberpunk etc.) it reaches temps around 84°C. It looks similar for the CPU: before it got max to 85ish, and now its between 95 and 100. Anyone else experiences the same? Nothing besides the BIOS update changed on my computer, neither did the room temperature change or how I have my laptop positioned.

Q: does anyone know/own the MSI KATANA 15 B13VFK?

It's my current laptop with the msi katana 15 b13vfk-1850id (i7 13620h w rtx 4060(105w), 16gb ddr5 5200 and 1tb gen5 nvme for ~900$ by the time i bought it before it went off sale

Any experience with it or smh? Because after owning it for 7 months i noticed the temps were quite getting higher than 80°C starting mid december, before it was chill at around 50°C at idle to the 60-78°C under load on a room temp of 25-28°C

And the performance quite getting worse as well (i think it has something more to do with nvidia drivers and windows 11 updates even after debloating the ai shenanigans and stuff)

For reference i casually play war thunder tank battles at 1440p movie settings (with some tweaks to the settings) using dx12:

Before november the avg fps was 160-250

But after november when i updated nvidia drivers and updating to windows 25h2 (26200.7462), the fps dropped to the 60 or lower with very frequent stutters and all, and i switched to dx11 its 80-100fps at best, more smoother but has stutters time to time, and then i use vulkan (quite a hidden render engine that war thunder use, but usable at any time if you know how to do it) and i got 105-150fps at best with no stutters

And for note when using dx11 or dx12 if i alt.+tab it could just freeze the game for a significant amount of time or just crashed it

So on my conclusion, over time your laptop gets hotter (prob from poor thermal paste quality over time, the fans are fine and vents are clean because i cleaned them frequently every end of the month), and you get less performance from driver updates and windows updates.

Even bios update doesn't help with performance so its software limited, and you gotta change the thermal paste to a better one or use ptm7950 if you have the same laptop i have or a variant of it at least

Changing Thermal paste msi pulse 17 b13vfk

So i was noticing my laptop is running really high temps while gaming (100 degrees celsius) even with the fanboost on so i think i have to put new thermal paste on the cpu and gpu and clean out the fans. I havent done that by myself ever so i wanted to know if anyone knows a video how to correctly open everything i cant seem to find anything thats my model. Also any tips on how to do that by myself are also welcome :D

MSI / Nahimic keeps reinstalling itself on Windows 11 — permanent fix (works)

After fixing audio instability on my MSI laptop (Intel HX platform), I removed Nahimic — but it kept silently reinstalling itself. It didn’t show in Settings → Apps, yet the tray icon, services, and drivers came back, along with audio crunching.

Killing the processes didn’t work — they respawn immediately. The reason is important:

Nahimic is NOT an app.
It’s an OEM A-Volute extension driver (APO). Windows and MSI Center will always try to re-inject it unless you block it at the device-policy level.

Here’s the process that finally stopped it permanently.

# 1) Remove Nahimic cleanly (Safe Mode recommended)

Boot into Safe Mode
Device Manager → Sound, video and game controllers
Uninstall all Nahimic / A-Volute / AH4 entries Check Delete the driver software
Disable Nahimic service (services.msc)
Reboot to normal Windows

# 2) Permanently block Nahimic from reinstalling (CRITICAL)

Open Registry Editor and create this path if it doesn’t exist:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\SOFTWARE
\Policies
\Microsoft
\Windows
\DeviceInstall
\Restrictions

Inside Restrictions, create:

Multi-String Value

Name: DenyDeviceIDs
Value (one per line):
SWC\VEN_AVOLUTE
ROOT\AVolute
ROOT\AVoluteAH4

DWORD (32-bit)

Name: DenyDeviceIDsRetroactive
Value: 1

Reboot.

# Result

Nahimic does not reinstall
No tray icon
No background services respawning
Audio stable (no startup / device-switch crunch)
Survives reboots, MSI Center scans, and Windows Update

# Key takeaway

Uninstalling Nahimic is not enough.
You must block the A-Volute device IDs or Windows will keep putting it back.

This is the same method enterprise IT uses to suppress broken OEM audio middleware.

Undervolted my Vector 16 HX AI (Ultra 7 255HX) to -80mV + Unparked Cores

Hey guys i have the MSI Vector 16 HX AI with the Core Ultra 7 255HX and RTX 5070 Ti.

I’ve been tweaking it for better temps/performance and managed to set a -80mV undervolt (Core & Ring) in the BIOS. I also disabled CPU Core Parking completely to stop the stuttering.
So far it’s been perfectly stable in games with no crashes, and temps are good.

But i want to know,

Is -80mV considered a good result for the 255HX? Since it's stable, should I try pushing it further or is that asking for trouble later?
For those who have this laptop, what values are you running daily?
