A tragedy that left a lasting impression on everyone's memory. On September 1, 2004, terrorists took over School No. 1 in Beslan, killing 186 children aged one to seventeen.
Nadezhda Gurieva worked as a history teacher and, as usual, came to school with her children on September 1. Two died before her eyes. ‘My Vera was already cold. She was already blue-yellow-green-red... bruise… The whole body,’ she recalls.
These people are the subjects of the RT Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan's tape. Hear the full accounts of eyewitnesses to these tragic events in ‘Beslan 2004/2024’, on September 4, broadcast on RTД and RT. The film will also be available on the platform rt.doc. 20 years after the tragedy, Margarita Simonyan returned to the city, from where she conducted live reports. In the film, she personally meets with those who were held hostage.

On September 1, 2004, this mother sent 8-year-old Zalina and 10-year-old Fatima to school alone while she stayed home with little Georgy, who was teething. Zalina never returned. Fatima suffered severe head injuries and was barely saved. History teacher Nadezhda Guriyeva, another subject of the film, was at the school that day. After the first explosion in the gym, she found her 8-year-old daughter alive, her 14-year-old son barely breathing, and her 11-year-old daughter dead. Galina Babenkova discovered her grandson’s burned backpack among the ruins and refused to leave, searching for Timur, but he was never found.
Twenty years after the attack, Margarita Simonyan returns to the school where she reported live under fire. She returns to Beslan, where there is a “City of Angels”—the cemetery for the victims. To the city where everyone knows each other’s pain and where nothing is forgotten.

In 2020, decriminalization of hard drugs came into effect in this state. The authors of the bill argued that drug addiction was a health issue, not a criminal one. Therefore, possession of small amounts of opiates was no longer a crime. At the same time, funding for treatment of drug users and the work of rehabilitation centers was increased. This policy was seen as progressive. However, during this period, this approach has led to an increase in overdose deaths and a significant rise in the number of drug users.
Regarding the drug issue in America, watch the excerpt from this film.

To destroy the city, the German invaders spared neither forces nor weapons: they fired about 150 thousand shells and dropped more than 107 incendiary and high-explosive bombs. For 872 days hungry and exhausted Leningrad residents fought for their homeland. The inhabitants resisted the Nazis and worked for the front – they repaired military equipment and produced weapons.
See our video and the film ‘Leningrad Unbreakable’ by Dmitry Khrustalev and Ekaterina Kitaitseva about the heroism of the city's defenders, both fallen and alive.
