Saddam Hussein decided to sell Iraqi oil using the EU currency, not the US dollar which would have weakened the US dollar and undermined the US economy. That is the unpublicized reason for the brutal elimination of Saddam Hussein. The theft and control of Iraqi oil also played a large role.

What is transpiring in Ukraine has revealed how weak Washington's foreign policy arm has become.
With its cyber arsenal having been revealed in near totality scant few years before, and its endless military engagements being brought into question by its own citizens, the powerful empire seems to have soured on a global stage, with the largest economies choosing instead to continue to deal with nations often framed as hostile enemies by the increasingly isolated superpower.
The largest threat looming for the US, is the Russo-Chinese bloc; which has only strengthened in recent days.
Although Ukraine is dominating a news cycle, the US main concern ahead will be its covert weapons program in Taiwan, and its proximity to China.
The trilateral military treaty between the US-UK-AUS meant to safeguard it may not be enough should Russia and China move in unison in the days ahead, which they likely will.
The cabal of power that for decades has dominated US run political machines is finally being run out of town globally, and the effect is ugly for those behind its walls. As inflation soars for basic goods and fuel costs, citizens of the West are trapped beneath a bitter regime that is decimating itself to keep a narrative alive.
