Hey guys, I went back to my bank again today. I saw the male teller dressed in a suit at the teller window and I asked him why he was wearing a suit and tie and doing the teller stuff. He says that he and all of the other 3 tellers now work both sides of the window (Teller and New accounts). Being that I have several years of being a bank teller under my belt, I found this odd. We never switched sides like that. I then asked him “why? Is it because this branch in now going to be an exchange center?” He answered with “Yes, we are.” At that moment the other 2 tellers standing on either side of him acted like they saw a ghost because I asked that question. I then asked him “when is this supposed to happen?”He said confidently and without skipping a beat “the second qtr of 2023, early May”. I then asked him “is that when The Switch actually happens?” He said in a less confident voice, “supposed to be soon but you never know” then he changed the subject and asked if I had any plans for the weekend. Desmond Doss was a United States Army corporal who served as a combat medic in World War 2. Doss was a conscientious objector, and was picked on by his fellow soldiers, who labelled him a coward. He was made fun of because he did not want to carry a gun and because he did not work on Saturdays because of his religious beliefs.
He became the only conscientious objector to receive the Medal of Honor when he single-handedly saved the lives of 75 men in the Battle of Okinawa, in the process, having his left arm fractured by a sniper’s bullet and 17 pieces of shrapnel in his body.
Wanting to help in the war effort whilst sticking to his personal beliefs, suffering the abuse he did, and then going on to single-handedly save as many men as he did, means that Desmond Doss’ story deserves to be considered as one of the most inspirational stories in history.
