Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
Train up has the idea of a parent graciously investing in a child whatever wisdom, love, nurture, and discipline is needed for him to become fully committed to God. It presupposes the emotional and spiritual maturity of the parent to do so. In the way he should go is to do the training according to the unique personality, gifts, and aspirations of the child. It also means to train the child to avoid whatever natural tendencies he might have that would prevent total commitment to God (for example, a weak will, a lack of discipline, a susceptibility to depression). Hence, the promise is that proper development insures the child will stay committed to God. Perhaps biblical wisdom most significantly challenges our modern philosophies and practices of child-rearing. Train children to honor authority, obey, and follow instruction. Discourage rebellion, stubbornness, and disobedience.

This evening a winter storm has started in my area. We are safe, warm, and ready to spend the Christmas weekend together with family.
Today as the weather station was talking about the storm, I was reminded of something simple, yet profound:
This storm will end; It can't last forever.
In fact, all storms end. There's never been a storm that's lasted forever.
This is true not just for the weather, but for the personal storms we face, as well.
When we go through storms in this life, we often feel as if there's no end in sight, but have faith. It won't last forever.
God never promised a storm-free life, but He did promise us something even greater: To go with through it all. He will never leave us or forsake us.
Storms aren't pleasant, but armed with the realization it won't last forever and the promise that God will go with us, we have nothing to fear.
Keep on keeping on! 🙏
"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD" (Jesus, John 16:33).
