The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 580 points, or 1.8%, in futures trading, on pace for its third-largest daily loss of 2023; the S&P 500 and tech-heavy Nasdaq similarly slid 2.1% and 1.7%, respectively.
The domestic losses come amid broad declines in stocks abroad, with the Zurich-based bank Credit Suisse’s 21% slide to a record low in share prices amid capital concerns headlining the losses.
Also stoking concerns about the fallout of Silicon Valley Bank, Signature Bank and Silvergate Capital’s recent closures was a bleak letter from Blackrock CEO Larry Fink warning the failures could simply be the first “domino[es] to drop” before a potential “cascade throughout the U.S. regional banking sector with more seizures and shutdowns coming.”
Regional bank stocks captained Wednesday’s sinking ship, with share prices of PacWest, Comerica and First Republic each falling more than 8% in premarket trading.
Fink noted inflation could persist at close to 4% for the next couple years as the Federal Reverse refocuses its attention on keeping the banking industry afloat instead of bringing down consumer prices.

Naval forces from China, Iran and Russia — countries at odds with the United States — are staging joint drills in the Gulf of Oman this week, China’s Defense Ministry said Tuesday.
Other countries are also taking part in the “Security Bond-2023” exercises, the ministry said without giving details. Iran, Pakistan, Oman and the United Arab Emirates all have coastline along the waterbody lying at the mouth of the strategic Persian Gulf.
“This exercise will help deepen practical cooperation between the participating countries’ navies ... and inject positive energy into regional peace and stability,” the ministry statement said.

Do you know where all these deposits are going from all these regional banks? They are flooding into the top four banks. They are flooding into JPM Chase, which is too big to fail; thanks to the bailout in 2008, which we all have problems with, he is too big to fail.
And so, the logical response for everybody is to go to a big four bank. Why would you do anything differently? If the fed is not clear that your deposits are safe if you have any doubt about that, if there is a 1% chance that you might lose your money, why wouldn't you go to a too big to fail bank? This is the problem."
