The theatrics we witnessed today were wildly unconstitutional and bizarre. This noscripted and well-rehearsed political stunt was designed to influence the outcome of the election. No judge, no opposing counsel, no objections, no cross-examination, a true kangaroo court.
Sheriff Villanueva is the first and only sheriff in fifty years to take positive action, including firing, disciplining, and transferring employees found responsible for misconduct. On separate occasions, claims of deputy gangs have been thrown out of court for lack of evidence.
The term “deputy gang” has become a racist dog whistle, a fact-free straw man argument designed for political purposes and financial gain. If anyone has real evidence of misconduct, please share it so the LASD can take appropriate lawful action.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Major Crimes Investigators, Federal ATF Investigators and Whittier Police Officers arrested Daevon Conley and two juvenile subjects as they fled a jewelry store in Whittier. The suspect and subjects had just committed a robbery by threatening employees and smashing display cases within the store and stealing approximately $250K in jewelry. The juvenile subjects fled in a stolen pickup truck and the adult suspect in a sedan. All were detained and arrested prior to leaving the Whittwood Mall parking lot.
This joint investigation is ongoing, and detectives are determining if these arrestees are related to any additional recent robberies.
