• Annual numbers fluctuated between 10–40 deaths, with occasional small spikes.
Major Spike Period (2000–2009)
• This decade saw the largest surge, averaging 82.8 deaths per year.
• Key peaks:
• 155 deaths in 2006

• Killings dropped noticeably after 2010.
• The 2010s averaged 35.7 cases per year.
• Reduction linked to policies under Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League, improved bilateral cooperation, and pressure for BSF reform following incidents like the 2011 Felani Khatun killing.
Recent Period (2020–2023)
• Further decline to an average of 28.5 deaths per year.
• Due to recent Indo-Bangladesh tensions after Sheikh Hasina’s ouster in coup
