Stock Market Week in Review:
Due to Congress's failure to agree on necessary federal funding bills before the deadline, the U.S. government shut down on Wednesday.
Despite that, all major indices closed this week with gains:
- S&P is up 0.69%, even closing above 6700 for the first time
- The Dow performed even better, +0.98%
- Nasdaq is up +0.75% for the week.
On Tuesday, $NKE earnings beat every single expectation, both positively and negatively. Earnings per share (EPS) were $0.49, beating the expected number by 81%. Still, the EPS is down 30% year-over-year but up 250% quarter-over-quarter.
Due to the shutdown, we didn’t receive the nonfarm payrolls report for September, which was scheduled for release on Friday morning.
Since the Bureau of Labor Statistics was closed down, we focused on other indicators for the labor market. These weren’t very bullish, since the September ADP data showed the economy losing 32,000 jobs. The expectations coming into the report had been for our economy to add 51,000 jobs.
After the Senate failed to reach the 60 votes needed on competing Republican and Democratic plans to fund the government yesterday, the federal workers will continue with their break until at least Monday.
One thing is for sure, there is never a dull week in the markets.

Every year you must again pay taxes on your vehicles, even if they’re paid off

- This year's rate is $2.35 per hundred dollars of the piece of property that you own
- Then they charge you per month that you own that item
For this woman to own her own cars in the state of Virginia this year, she was billed $2,104.45 (She shows the bill as proof)
This is separate from registration fees and tags.
