日本准备发射第一颗木制卫星

日本准备在今年夏天使用美国火箭发射第一颗木制卫星。木制卫星 LignoSat 使用的木材是木兰木(magnolia wood)，在国际空间站的测试发现该木材稳定且难以开裂。日本京都大学和住友林业公司的研究人员首先在地面实验室里测试了不同木材样本，然后送到国际空间站进行为期约一年的真空暴露测试，最后送回地面。结果显示木材样本没有损坏迹象，可能是因为太空中没有能让木材燃烧的氧气，也没有导致其腐烂的生物。在测试了不同种类木材中，木兰树的木材最牢固。如果 LignoSat 在轨道上表现良好，那么将为更多木制卫星打开大门。现有的人造卫星通常用铝制材料，进入大气层时会燃烧产生氧化铝，能留在大气层中几十年，会影响臭氧层。木制卫星进入大气层燃烧后产生可降解灰烬。
