This actually reminds me of something I think about a lot. In his work Ur Fascism, Umberto Eco argued the point that one of the main hallmarks of fascist ideology is cognitive dissonance. It's not surprising then that, when observing the American conservative movement, (which bears many similarities to past fascist movements) you see that it engages in these kinds of delusions. My take on these contradictory ideas is that, if you subscribe to the theory that main ideological sticking point of conservatism is the preservation of hierarchies, then reactionary uprising creates something of a paradox. Uprising, by nature, is a form of anti-hierarchal violence in that it creates conflict with established institutions, which, of course creates internal contradictions when used in a pro-hierarchy way. The only way for the conservative to uphold those beliefs, then, is to hold similarly contradictory understandings of such violence.
