don't wrap your AI API calls in transactions. because AI APIs can be slow (2-10 secs). and putting long-running external API calls inside a DB transaction will exhaust your db connection pool and lock up your app (since transactions keep a database connection open and often lock rows). perform the call on the AI first, then do the transactions

just saw one of the YC backed startup that sells voice agents for larger banks and mortgage lenders to automate phone calls. surprisingly enough, i was working on the same product a couple of months ago (last summer around August). ours was tailored for feedback automation system. so like, there was multi-tenancy-ish kinda system where an organization can create multiple voice agents and deploy them instantly. we used livekit + gemini/openai realtime API. would've been cool if it had made it. maybe a sign to give it another shot? hmm
