¹ IN 1918, MINERS NEAR WILKES-BARRE, PENNSYLVANIA UNCOVERED A PETRIFIED TREE EMBEDDED WITHIN A SEAM OF COAL. Coal itself is the carbon residue of ancient forests, formed when vast layers of vegetation were buried, compressed, and transformed under immense heat and pressure. The discovery of a preserved tree within coal suggests a profound geological event, one where living forests were rapidly overwhelmed and buried. Coal may well be the preserved aftermath of a world once swept by fire and flood, locked beneath our feet as evidence of Earth’s buried #history.

² ³ ⁴ FOSSIL TREES HAVE BEEN FOUND IN NORTHERN THAILAND THAT HAVE REACHED THE HEIGHT OF THE TALLEST MODERN SEQUOIAS. The longest petrified log is 72.2 meters (237 ft) long, suggesting that the original tree stood over 100 meters (330 ft). 9 fossilized tree trunks were found.
