Gram Stain: Gram-Positive
Bacilli Growth Characteristics: aerobic Gray to black colonies on blood tellurite agar.
Test Profile: catalase positive. Elkek test shows toxin production by agar gel precipitin test.
Denoscription: aerobic gram positive rods that aggregate into "Chinese letters" on gram stain and has metachromatic staining granules that are enhanced with methylene blue. Vaccine consists of a toxin of diptheria toxin.
