So, a Chinese-financed semiconductor industry in Brazil could be fairly easily commandeered by the Americans as part of a hemispheric supply chain system. One of the most preposterous things that was said repeatedly during the congressional hearings on the banning of Tiktok was that the alleged threats posed by the app had achieved the otherwise impossibility of uniting the congress.

First of all, they were not united by the threat of Tiktok, they were united by the lobbyists of Meta. Secondly, they are united all the time; the division is theatre. They are united in unconditional support for Israel. They are united in shovelling hundreds of billions of dollars to weapons manufacturers on the pretext of Ukraine. They are united in insulating banks from the consequences of degenerate gambling addiction and negligence. They are united over the right of corporations to price gouge under the pretext of inflation...on and on. The US congress is no less a one party system than the CCP in China.
