🔵 The investment in semiconductor and clean tech investments is almost double the commitments made in the same sectors in the whole of 2021, and nearly twenty times the amount in 2019, according to data compiled by the Financial Times.
While the FT identified four projects worth at least $1bn each in these sectors in 2019, there were 31 of that size after August 2022.

🔵 “We see right now the tectonic plates are shifting with respect to investment in the United States,” said US energy secretary Jennifer Granholm this week, referring to the surge of investment in recent months.
The Inflation Reduction Act, which became law last August, includes $369bn of tax credits for clean technologies as the Biden administration of pledges to decarbonise the US economy. Another law passed last August, the Chips and Science Act, includes $39bn in funds to stimulate semiconductor manufacturing and $24bn worth of manufacturing tax credits. Both are also designed to break US dependence on Chinese supply chains.

🔵 The industrial policies have drawn fire from European and Asian allies, who have claimed their deep subsidies and made-in-America requirements amount to protectionism. Emmanuel Macron, president of France, who visited China last week in an attempt to improve Paris’s relations with Beijing, has said the IRA could “fragment the west”.

The EU unveiled a rival industrial strategy last month with provisions to match subsidies for projects at risk of going abroad.

🔵 “The magnitude of these investments together is pretty staggering,” said Cullen Hendrix, senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. “This is attempting to go from zero to 100 miles an hour in terms of supply chain development in a way that we haven’t seen in quite a while.”

we need to compile a kind of dossier, a record of some sort, of all the moves being made by KSA and UAE over the last several years in pursuit of expanding their influence and enabling themselves to act independently. Anyone want to help work on this?

In the Sudanese capital of Khartoum, Rapid Support Forces fired on an armored car of the U.S. Embassy. According to embassy sources, "the embassy's armored car was deliberately fired upon by a special forces unit." According to their sources, diplomats were unharmed.

Also, the EU ambassador to Sudan was attacked in his residence, said Josep Borrel.

🇸🇩 Sudanese rival forces said to agree to 24-hour cease-fire

The Sudanese army and a rival paramilitary force Rapid Support Forces that have been battling the past four days for control of the country agreed Tuesday to a 24-hour cease-fire. The truce started at 6 p.m. Sudanese time.

Still, hours before the cease-fire was reportedly set to begin, forces loyal to Sudan's two top generals continued fighting each other in the streets of Khartoum.

🔴Khalifa Haftar, the commander of a faction that controls eastern Libya, dispatched at least one plane to fly military supplies to Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, Meanwhile, Egypt sent warplanes and pilots to back the Sudanese military.

🇱🇾Mr. Haftar, who is backed by Russia and the United Arab Emirates, sent at least one shipment of ammunition on Monday from Libya to Sudan to replenish supplies for Gen. Dagalo (RSF leader)

🇪🇬Egypt, which has officially called for an end to the fighting, sent fighter jets just before the fighting started and additional pilots soon after to support Gen. Burhan, A Sudanese army official said one Egyptian jet fighter destroyed an ammunition depot controlled by Gen. Dagalo on Monday afternoon.
