As Singapore continues to embrace stablecoins in its economy, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has released new regulations for the digital currency industry. The Central Bank of Singapore has published a final regulatory framework that stablecoin issuers in the country must follow.
The framework reportedly only applies to single currency stablecoins (SCS) pegged to the Singapore dollar or any G10 currency, which includes the US dollar.
As part of these requirements, stablecoin issuers are supposed to hold their reserve assets in stablecoin currency held in “segregated accounts”. Authorized custodians of reserve assets include financial institutions licensed for such services in the country and overseas custodians rated at least "AA-". However, these overseas trustees must maintain a supervised branch in Singapore.
