What actually causes tick lag in large packs?
Take a public server for a huge pack like ATM10, what actually causes heavy CPU load? It seems to me that the mere presence of lots and lots of mods shouldn't have much impact on CPU usage, right? Just RAM, where they have to be loaded. And yet still CPU usage skyrockets as more and more mods are added.
Of course a Minecraft server can have a near-unlimited amount of RAM, but CPU is the major bottleneck. And multi-threading is out of the question, so what functions could be disabled in what order to maximize the amount of players that can play on one server?
How much benefit could be had by just removing/disabling unnecessary mods from the server?
How much CPU load is caused just by ticking wilderness chunks? How much performance could be gained if all players were in the same general area living in one or two chunks right next to eachother, as opposed to all of them loading their own 64-chunk areas in completely different areas of the map?

Finally completed the original Stoneblock. I know it's not as big as some of y'alls Gregtech runs, but this is the first "skyblock" pack I've ever completed. 206 in game days, the last 20 or so were afk (I HATE ENVIRONMENTAL TECH)

why do some modders take issue with people backporting their mods.
I was wondering why do some modders take issue with people backporting their mods to an older version.
For example alex's cave for 1.20.1 the devs said they wont ever backport it to version 1.19.2 , so someone made a backport themselves. But for some reason (even tho no monetary gain wasn't involved, and credit was given) they have been adamant to hide this backport and shut down any attempt to make it public.
Why do you think that is.
