There is too many modpack makers but too little mod developers

I was looking for a modpack while waiting for ATM10TTS and I realised most of the modpacks that get released contain the same mods the other packs do. Theres literally only like 2 exclusive to 1.21 mods - Just dire things and Oritech while im seeing dozens of new modpacks every single day. Playing one modpack kind of makes it impossible to play another one because it contains the same mods and its boring to play the same stuff again. Like eating the same cookies from a different package

Current "state of modding"?

So. Minecraft modding, as usual, is a bit of a mess, nothing new here.

I was thinking about maybe soon trying to make a space themed modpack with custom planets and progression based on interplanetary travel, since I am not sure if there is a good one for it (that wouldn't make me grind for the foreseeable future). But then, I am stuck at the most basic question: what do I even make it on?

First there is the version. 1.12.2 is somehow immortal as always, but for more modern play I think it's between 1.18.2 and 1.20.1? I'm starting to see 1.21 ports but with the new update rythm mods are now doomed to lag behind, so do you think 1.20.1 is here to stay?

And regarding modloaders, we now have the pleasure of having three different big names for newer versions. Also Quilt is here too, I guess.

So, what do you think? As a player, modder, or modpack maker? What is the ""meta"" like in 2025 for mods and modpacks? Which modloaders and versions are hip, and do you think it is here to stay?

Also, is the Create mania a trend or here to stay? (Personally I'm getting tired of every modpack being built around it, even though I like the mod)

Monifactory vs Star Technology? (GregTech)

I want to finally hop on GregTech and I'm a new minecraft enthusiast so I was looking for 1.20 or 1.21 GT packs, these are the 2 that caught my interest and here is my question - Which of these packs are generally better in your opinion? I'm more into Tech than exploration so Star technology seems like a better option since its a skyblock but I'm not sure

Are there modpacks that "force" you to build an actual base?

I love the idea of building a huge, nice looking base, but most of the time I still end up making a lawn base.

Are there any good (ideally tech and quest) modpacks that strongly encourage making actual buildings as your base.
Maybe some sort of tower defense mechanic, or maybe your machines break when it rains idk...
I would like there to be a noticeble disadvantage if I don't bzild a base.

I don't know any modpacks like that, but I hope they exist.

New here... enjoying Homestead. Are there any "essential" or well-known modpacks in this cozy/farm sim genre I should check out?

Really enjoying Homestead. Wondering if there are some others I should have lined up to play next. Since I'm not familiar with nearly any modpacks I'd like to hear about some of the classics or well received packs in the genre
