What defines a masochist in modded MC?
A friend of mine claimed today that any pack is "annoying" if it doesn't have any form of vein mining (even packs as simple as Just Create, which are literally just vanilla plus), repeatedly labeling players who choose to play those packs as "masochists."
Seeing the amount of packs that go around as kitchen sinks, skyblocks, expert packs, questing/adventuring, puzzles, and whatever the hell RLCraft is creates a large variety of choices for players to make when it comes to picking a pack they want to play. Some people play to be overpowered, some play to engage in a story, others like to challenge themselves.
This had me thinking... what exactly defines masochism in modded Minecraft?
Is it simply the absence of QoL mods in a pack?
Or is it micro-crafting as a core part of progression?
What about using gates/stages to slow gameplay?
Where does the do I even have to say it? modpack fit in to this discussion, if at all???
I think this community could help me grapple this definition better. I know these definitions are subjective, but I want to see what backgrounds everyone comes from when engaging with a topic like this.

Does anyone actually like oritech?
I've seen a lot of modpacks using it lately, but I never used it that much so I don't really have an opinion on it. I haven't seen anyone praising oritech so I'm curious what the community thinks about it.

The steam deck totally reignited my love for modded minecraft!
I was really into modded Minecraft back in 2013-2015, I remember playing the FTB packs, watching let's plays on youtube, struggling with gregtech, trying to build the craziest machines, I loved it. Over the years though, I kinda lost interest and I hadn't really played it for about 10 years.
This year, however, I got myself a steam deck, and it's been amazing for indie noscripts, older AAA's and emulation. I got the idea of trying to run minecraft on it and I gotta say, this thing is an absolute beast.
I've never owned a computer that was able to run modpacks with shaders at a smooth 60fps, and I certainly didn't expect the steam deck to do that. I'm running Enigmatica 2 and it's working amazingly well (especially with the trackpads, I was never able to get into minecraft on consoles due to the lack of precise mouse control). I love going through the questbook and getting into all the mods I neglected back then. Also, I'm studying engineering now which makes all the tech stuff even more exciting haha.
I'm so glad I got this thing, probably the best gaming purchase I've ever made.

Last attempt/Final attempt before my Stalker mod and event is fully dead
A few friends and I were working on a mod with the basics of stalker we planned to add to a modpack for an event at the time. We put months into his map, mod wise we started anomalies, I modeled artifacts and a few key mutants, We had plans for emissions, I began to refurbish a 7+ year old map and established the traders. Now all the work is gone because instead of just saying they were not interested they quietly abandoned and have ghosted. I have for now canceled the project completely and I have decided I will never do this again. If anyone would want to offer technical assistance for a simple mod I guess DM me but as for now this vision is completely dead and never going to be revived.

Is it theoretically possible to beat GT:NH without ever using a guide?
I've been playing modded MC for years now but I always start a pack and abandon it after a little while, so I feel like I've barely scratched the surface of AE2, Gregtech, and other big mods. I'd like to try a pack I can invest a lot of time in and finally learn modded MC in excruciating depth, and I hear GT:NH's quest book is revered for being very detailed and well-polished.
You psycho fucks won't stop talking about how good this pack is so I figured I'd finally try it again. My question is, could I feasibly make a lot of progress without ever consulting an online guide or following a playthrough?
