Manametal 8.0 Showcase – A Tutorial Dungeon Instead of a Tutorial Book
1min short version
Hey everyone!
It’s been a while since we last shared an update on Manametal.
Recently, we started work on a major update, and today we’d like to showcase one system we’ve been focusing on: our new player onboarding experience.
Most mods rely on tutorial books, wikis, or community knowledge to teach their systems. That approach works well for advanced mechanics — and Manametal still uses it — but we felt that the initial onboarding could be more hands-on and immersive.
For Manametal 8.0, new players will begin in a special tutorial dungeon called Peace Academy.
Dungeons are a core concept in our mod, so instead of walls of text, players learn basic mechanics through guided gameplay inside a dedicated, in-world space.
The goal is simple: help new players get comfortable quickly, so they can start exploring the larger systems of Manametal without feeling lost at the very beginning.
This system has reached a stage where we’re comfortable sharing it, and we’re excited to hear what you think.
🎥 Full Video link
If you’re interested in the project or want to follow its progress, you can also find Manametal on CurseForge:
CurseForge
As always, feedback is very welcome — especially regarding onboarding and first-time player experience.

The Absolute Problem With Modern Modpacks and Why They genuinely suck
I have been around the java modding community for a decade and a half and it feels like modpacks have hit a literal slump. Modern Modpacks genuinely suck now, are reptitive and boring. Most modpacks tend to fall under these Categories now
-"YOUR NUMBER 1 PIXELMON COBBLEMON EXPERIENCE #53"
-"Another Cozy Modpack! Vanilla+ experience, With Create! Or shaders!!"
-Horror slop #82"
-Questing Pack number 2089 (now with the same 200 mods and progression like all other questing modpacks)
-GregtechNewHorizonsInfinityToTheMax
What has happened? Do we really need another cozy modpack? Or Vanilla+ with create? It's like we milk the same dried up cow that is ATM, stoneblock, or FTB packs. What happened to the packs that were different? Blightfall, Agrarian Skies, Crafting Dead? When I see a pack denoscription that says "200, 300 mods, 1000 quests" i immediately avoid it like the plague, it will be the same mods as the rest. Yung's dungeons, Botania, Create, shaders, shaders, shaders, Aether, etc.
A few packs ive seen that break this trend exist, but are far and few between. Greedycraft, Meatballcraft, LingoGango, and NeoTech. And half are only for 1.12! We have some fantastic mods that feel like we dont use their potential. Apotheosis for 1. But then we get modpacks that include redundent mods like thermal series, create, mekanism, they all do relatively the same thing, why use 1 over the other? Why do I want to go explore the same Yungs dungeon for some mediocre vanilla ass loot? Wheres the love gone? By no means do i think we need more packs like gregtech, but why do we need all these kitchen sink packs with all the same progression, loot, and experience? Ive seen some creative shit with craft tweaker 2, etc. I think i speak for alot of people when I say I dont want to explore the same twlight forest, the same boring ass Aether, or beneath. Why do i want to do my quest book for no rewards, or some mediocre slop?
This by no means is a slam at any modpack creator or mod in particular. Im just tired of looking at the modpack section looking for something fresh and all i see are 50 more pixelmon, horror, or cozy packs that are the same as the last 5000 packs. Please, we need DOME variety, and I know there are some seriously talented people here.

My actual thoughts on modpacks...
I really want to enjoy modded Minecraft alone, but I honestly struggle with it.
What I’m searching for is a world that feels alive, hostile, and unpredictable. I don’t want quests telling me where danger is. I don’t want bosses I choose to fight. I want danger to come to me.
The perfect feeling for me would be sitting in my base at night and not feeling safe at all. Hearing strange sounds in the distance. Wondering “what was that” or “is something watching me”. Going mining and knowing that something could happen while I’m gone. Coming back and seeing damage, chaos, or signs that something attacked.
If I combine mods like mutant creatures, troll mobs, cyclops, different types of creepers, Mowzie’s Mobs, cave dweller that stalks you and learns from you, I can almost get what I want. The cave dweller especially is scary because of the sounds and the feeling of being hunted. But I still want more.
I want giants, huge monsters, and strong pillager tribes. Big pillager outposts or forts. Archers on walls. Elite or mutant pillagers. Maybe even tribes that can defend areas or raid me. I want bases in the world that feel powerful and alive, not just empty structures.
What makes me sad is that I know this kind of modpack could exist. I know it’s possible. I’ve made so many posts and searched for so long trying to find something like this, but I still haven’t found one modpack like this but i truly believe there is 1 out there for sure!
If anyone knows a modpack or mods that really focus on this kind of experience, I’d genuinely appreciate it

Is it legal to use any mods you want in monetized videos?
Am i allowed to use any mod(s) that I want and then make videos using them, with the intention of possibly making money from said videos? Maybe noscripted, roleplay-style videos with storytelling.
For example, CustomNPCs is a mod that claims to have the licence creative commons attribution non-commercial 3.0 unported, so would I be in any legal trouble if I were to use it? And perhaps mix it with other mods, from WorldEdit to Blockbuster Studio or ReplayMod, etc...
Does Mojang get the final say? And what about many of the youtubers who DO use all kinds of mods in their videos for different purposes and have no issues with this.
I just want to know if I am allowed to do it, or if it would cause major problems legally and/or morally if I were to create potentially monetized videos that utilize these mods (like CustomNPCs).
