Xiaomi didn't mention this on stage, but another Google AI feature is losing its Pixel and Samsung exclusivity: Gemini Nano!

Google's mobile-optimized LLM is coming to the Xiaomi 14T series and Xiaomi MIX Flip.

More details on what this means can be found in my latest article for Android Authority.

Ultra HDR support is coming to more Android phones! The new Xiaomi 14T series capture photos in Google's new image format, and some of Xiaomi's existing phones do, too.

Here's why this is important.

Circle to Search is finally coming to more phones, starting with the Xiaomi 14T series and Xiaomi MIX Flip. The feature is no longer exclusive to Samsung and Pixel phones. More details on this announcement can be found in this article.
Circle to Search isn't rolling out for the Xiaomi 14T series until October 6...but I enabled it early 👀

It's pretty funny how I did it, too, lol. All I had to do was be on the right version of HyperOS and change the date to October 7.

Android 15 QPR1's upcoming notification cooldown feature was briefly being developed under a different name: adaptive notifications.

This feature automatically reduces the device's volume and alerts for up to 2 minutes when you get too many notifications at once.

Personally, I think notification cooldown is a better name than adaptive notifications, but what do y'all think?

Gemini Nano is rolling out to the Xiaomi 14T Pro!

I just got an update to the AICore app on Google Play that took it from a stub to a version that's built for the MediaTek chip in this phone.

So far, Gemini Nano is only used for Magic Compose in Google Messages.

After fully downloading, the Gemini Nano model takes up about 1.5GB of space. This is the v1 not the multimodality model by the way.

More details on Gemini Nano expanding to the Xiaomi 14T series can be found in this article.

Google is rolling out an update to the "Dreams" app on some Pixel phones.

If you're confused about what this is, it's actually the app that contains the screen savers for the Pixel Tablet.

Pixel phones had a stub for this Dreams app for a few months but Google is now pushing an update that brings a few new screen savers, but notably many of the unique ones from the Pixel Tablet are still missing.

The update adds News & Weather and Photos but doesn't bring the tablet's Art Gallery, Full-screen clock, Google Photos, and Weather Frog screen savers.

Just got Gemini Live on my Xiaomi 14T Pro as a free user!

Google announced earlier this month that Gemini Live will be rolling out to free (non-Gemini Advanced) users. Some users got it last week, but it seems to have more widely rolled out in the past day from what I've seen.

LMK if you have it and what you think of it after trying out!

Google Chrome for Android is rolling out a new button that makes it easier to open a new tab in the tab switcher page!

This "new tab" button on the bottom right just appeared for me in the stable channel of Chrome. Previously, you had to tap the three dot menu in the top right then hit "new tab" to open a new tab. That button is hard to reach on taller devices.

This button has been available for some people in beta/dev versions of Chrome for a few weeks now, but today is the first I'm seeing it in the stable version without any manual flag overrides. LMK if you see it!
