Dette er den nest laveste utbredelse som har blitt observert for desember i Antarktis og er svært lav i forhold til referanseperioden for desember (figur 5). I havomra det utenfor Dronning Maud Land er isutbredelsen den nest laveste for desember med et areal pa 1.47 millioner km2 (figur 6). Dette er svært lav utbredelse i forhold til normalt.

In the southern hemisphere it is summer and the sea ice extent for December is 9.32 million km2. This is the second lowest prevalence that has been observed for December in Antarctica and is very low compared to the reference period for December (Figure 5). In the sea area outside Dronning Maud Land, the ice extent is the second lowest for December with an area of 1.47 million km2 (figure 6). This is a very low prevalence compared to normal.

Sjøisen i Arktis er i desember ma lt til 12.15 millioner km2, hvilket er den 10. laveste utbredelse for desember som har blitt observert med satellittma linger1, se figur 2. I forhold til referanseperioden defineres dette som en normal utbredelse. Det er mindre is enn vanlig i omra dene for Hudson- og Baffinbukta, Beringstredet, og i nordlige Barentshavet. Mens Framstredet og Grønlandshavet har mer is enn vanlig, se figur 1. Rundt Svalbard er isutbredelsen na 0.43 millioner km2 og er den 12. laveste, hvilket svarer til en normal utbredelse for desember.

There is less ice than usual in the Hudson and Baffin Bay areas, the Bering Strait, and in the northern Barents Sea.
