Tomorrow afternoon there will be an eclipse prayer in Makkah and surrounding areas إن شاء الله. As a review, read this note:

🕋 A Benefit From The Haram

🌕🌙 ☀️ Solar and lunar eclipses are two signs of Allaah with which He uses to frighten His servants and remind them of the Day of Judgement. Whenever an eclipse occurred, the Companions would be afraid that this was a warning of impending disaster.

In tonight's class on Sunan Abee Dawud, Shaykh Muhammad Ali Aadam Al-Ityoobi (حفظه الله) commented on the acts of worship Muslims should engage themselves in during the occurrence of a solar or lunar eclipse.

#1191. On the authority of 'Aaisha (رضي الله عنها) that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said,

*الشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ لاَ يُخْسَفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلاَ لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَادْعُوا اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَكَبِّرُوا وَتَصَدَّقُوا*

*"The sun and the moon are not eclipsed on account of anyone's death or on account of anyone's birth.*

*So when you see that, supplicate Allah, declare His greatness, and give charity."*

The Shaykh said that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) singled out these three actions: *supplicating*, *declaring Allah's greatness*, and *giving in charity* because they are a means of avoiding calamities.

📝 Sharaf al-Haqq al-Adheem Abaadee said:

"These are recommended actions according to the majority of scholars.

Ibn al-Maalik said: 'Allah commanded supplication at the time of an eclipse because whenever people observe a miraculous event, their souls tend to be furthest away from the dunya and closest to the Hereafter.'

As for the statement, '...and give charity', then it means to be merciful towards the poor and needy. This is an indication that the eclipse is intended to put fear into those who possess wealth (so that they may give in charity)." [Awnul-Ma'bood 4/46-47]

📝 Shihaab ad-Deen ibn Raslaan said:

"One should rush forth in supplicating, extolling Allah, and performing righteous actions during the appearance of Allah's signs. The best action is the prayer, then to free a slave, then to give in charity, then to extol Allah, single Him out, remember Him (dhikr), supplicate to Him, and seek His forgiveness." [Sharh Sunan Abee Dawud by Ibn Raslaan 6/96]
