Hello everyone,

Elrond technical progress update #3 is here. In this update, we have details about our whitepaper revision, the necessity of these adjustments and what lead us up to them.

This post also deep dives into our architecture design, detailing the refined Adaptive State Sharding and Secure Proof of Stake mechanisms. Whilst complex, this update is also accessible to anyone interested to fully understanding our main contributions and why they are crucial for the progress of the blockchain space.

We’re also excited to announce the open source release of our prototype (Elrond Node and Wallet) with the mention that this iteration is not meant for measuring optimal performance but rather to validate the assumptions on which the theoretical performance claim rests. As a treat we are also including a way of figuring out real blockchain performance in terms of TPS claims.

Lastly, this post addresses our stepping stone from prototype to testnet.

We are strong believers in the blockchain technology and its future impact so despite the current market sentiment, we’re even more focused on innovating and developing Elrond.

General denoscription
Elrond is a complete rethinking of public blockchain infrastructure, specifically designed to be secure, efficient, scalable and interoperable. Elrond’s main contribution rests on two cornerstone building blocks: 1) A genuine Adaptive State Sharding approach: effectively partitioning the chain state into multiple shards, handled in parallel by different participating validators; 2) Secure Proof of Stake consensus mechanism: an improved variation of Proof of Stake (PoS) that ensures long term security and distributed fairness, while eliminating the need for energy intensive PoW algorithms.

Technical denoscription
Elrond’s dynamically adaptive sharding mechanism enables shard computation and reorganizing based on necessity and the number of active network nodes. The reassignment of nodes in the shards is progressive and nondeterministic, inducing no temporary liveness penalties. For additional security, Elrond randomly samples a new consensus group at the beginning of every round. Furthermore, Elrond refines its consensus mechanism by adding an additional weight factor called rating and uses the Bellare and Neven (BN) multisignature scheme. Lastly, Elrond considers formal verification for the critical protocol implementations (e.g. SPoS consensus mechanism) in order to validate the correctness of our algorithms.

​​Elrond Network is a definitely rare case in crypto, and here is why:

Elrond brings to the table Adaptive State Sharding, a solution that will scale almost linearly with the number of shards, improve communication inside the shards, increase performance through parallel processing and reduce storage.

Project exists since October 2017, testnet is almost ready, and all the development was self-funded by the co-founders. No private sale, no funds, no pre-sale, no shady deals at all.

Elrond team has already showcased its prototype and opened their GitHub in November, since then the team re-wrote everything from scratch in GO (previously it was written in Java) for the testnet, and has achieved a 30x performance improvement.

The team consists mostly of software developers with high expertise.
