Today we retell this story in cozy churches, with a rosy baby in a clean manger, while piles of gifts wait under the tree.
Meanwhile, in 2025, children in Gaza lie under torn tarps, in rubble, on wet mattresses in the mud. No clean water. No doctors. Just the constant fear of the next airstrike.
Mary and Joseph knew poverty, exclusion, and flight from violence. Mothers in Gaza know this too. So do parents in Sudan, Congo, Yemen, Myanmar, Ukraine.
Babies don't have ideologies. They bear no guilt. They have no geopolitical interests.
Back then, only a few wise men knew about the child in the stable. Today, we all see what's happening. We just look away.

In 1983, physicist Brandon Carter proposed something that made the scientific community go silent: we can’t observe universe-ending catastrophes because if they had happened, we wouldn’t be here to observe them.
He called it the Anthropic Shadow - the blind spot created by our own existence.
But David Deutsch took it further. He proved mathematically that our act of asking “why does the universe exist?” is the universe examining itself.
Consciousness isn’t something the universe contains. Consciousness is how the universe experiences what it’s doing.
A physicist at Oxford ran calculations: if you remove observers from quantum equations, the math describes a universe that never “happens” - it remains in pure probability, never collapsing into reality.
Translation: The universe needs to be witnessed to exist. You’re not watching it - you’re how it watches itself.
