If you're on the fence about the 50/18 Z, buy it with confidence
I've owned a lot of lenses over the years, some of them better than others (naturally). The Nikon 50/1.8 Z is the only one that exceeded my expectations and then some.
If you're thinking about getting one but aren't sure about it, think it's too plain to be great, or have some other reservation that isn't about focal length, buy a copy for yourself.
Thanks to a handy tip from someone here, I've got manual focus on it working well for me. That was my only concern at the beginning, but now it's smooth sailing all the way (speaking of which-- the background rendering is terrific).
I don't think it's going out on a limb to say that the 50/1.8 Z may be one of the very best lens buys in the 21st century. Are there better 50mm lenses? Sure-- for a (higher) price.
Get one for yourself if you haven't already. My only regret is not buying one at the same time I bought my first Z camera in June of this year.
