"This drawing was made for the cover of the North American edition in 2021, and was made to look a little like the 2017 live-action version in that the characters’ costumes are white. I also wrote the word ‘HANKA’ in the background. The coloring of the fuchikoma is a Japanese image (Zero fighter?), but it has been suppressed so as not to assert itself too much on the screen. This may be because it was brought out from the military before and after or before it was equipped with optical camouflage, and it is in its standard painted state.
The content of the image is a little before the manga, probably around the end of the year 2028. The costume and equipment do not give a sense of the season, but perhaps the lubricants, invasion protection grease, shoe soles, and temperature control settings of the bio-support system are set for the winter season. Perhaps there is a small traffic jam on the highway and they are trying to flank around the source of the jam, or perhaps traffic control has started and they are heading toward the source of the traffic jam.
The large video ad in the background, like the movie ‘Blade Runner,’ shows a society where commercialism is alive and well (as opposed to right or wrong, as the case may be)."
