TLDR: The FBI has been grooming a mentally disabled teenager for years about joining ISIS online, waited until he turned 18, and have now charged him with a crime that might have him in prison for 10 years and paying a $250,000 fine.

His father says in Mateo's Special Education classes in school, they frequently discuss mass shootings and terrorist attacks, which he claims gave him the idea.
The FBI has been in contact with Mateo frequently since he was 16 years old, under the guise of pretending to be with ISIS.
They told him not to tell his family about their recent discussions regarding the gift card reselling scheme.
