Air Force Colonel Katheryn Ellis, who claimed she was discriminated against for her religious beliefs when she was relieved of command in 2021 for refusing to order her subordinates to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, was just vindicated when the Director of Air Force Review Boards Agency substantiated the allegations of discrimination against her on appeal.

The order, issued on behalf of the Secretary of the Air Force, states:

“We find that Col Graham took adverse action motivated by a desire to avoid
accommodating a religious belief, observance, or practice that he knew or suspected
the Appellant needed and would not pose an undue hardship.”

Along with the ruling, it was directed that Colonel Ellis’s official records “be expunged of all references to her removal/relief from command etc., or change removal of command from “for cause” to “without cause” as well as removing any adverse action against her which resulted from her denial of a religious accommodation.

Colonel Ellis will also receive consideration by a special selection board for promotion to Brigadier General, if applicable, and she will be reimbursed all of her attorney fees associated with the case.
