I had the awesome and unique blessing to visit Iwo a few years ago. It was a holy pilgrimage. You could smell the Sulphur from nearby Suribachi, reminding you that there is a volcano there.

The seabed has started to rise around Mount Suribachi, mostly in the western part of the island.
