محققین در حوزههای مختلف میتوانند از NFT در مسائل آکادمیک مانند ثبت مالکیت نتایج کارآزماییهای بالینی، تصاویر سلول زنده، تصاویر فضا و کهکشانها، دریافت فاند تحقیقاتی، ثبت روشها و تکنیکهای بیوتکنولوژی، گردش کار و غیره بهره ببرند. اگرچه NFT شفافیت و نقدینگی را فراهم می سازد و همچنین می تواند بازاری نوآورانه به روی دانشمندانی که قصد تجاری سازی ایدهها و اختراعات خود را دارند فراهم سازد. ولی همچنان چالشهای متعددی وجود دارد که باید به آنها توجه شود. NFT را می توان یک روند آتی دانشگاهی و صنعتی در نظر گرفت که بسیاری از جنبه های آن نیاز به تحقیق و توسعه دارد.
