Admin note* All of us including myself should remember when reporting information to vet our information. Is this info correct? What are the consequences of this information spreading unverified? There is no reason we should attack our comrades. Through years of activism experience in Philly, I have been drilled about the importance of de-escalation and use of dialogue when dealing with one or two people you dont know or who appear to be potential threats. Talk to them. Dont assume the situation or escalate it needlessly by spreading fear. Figure out what's happening first. Counter-intel and misunderstandings spreading through the crowd can be dangerous.
Just a reminder that nobody was injured the other day. There was a misunderstanding in the crowd and the activist was chased. But they were not injured. Any news saying anybody got hurt is fake. This is a community member. Please do not sensationalize nonsense.
We have gotten some good information over the last few days:
- The city is restricting activity in center city and increasing law enforcement activity in the areas where they anticipate reaction ahead of the Breonna Taylor verdict. Expect higher police presence around City Hall and the Art Museum, as well as your local pig pens.
-There are about 30 census takers planning to go through JTD to count unhoused residents. It's unclear how much information will be asked of the residents, but all info taken will be confidential and NOT shared with the city.
All of this leads us to believe an increased awareness is useful and important to have around citywide activity and resident needs at camp. If you're planning activities do be mindful of the nature of the encampments and the priority of keeping police away from there for resident safety
