Eviction Support Requested: Reading Terminal Market Encampment

What: The encampment at Reading Terminal Market has been told they must move all of their belongings as the city attempts to disappear the houseless and get ready for the influx of tourists as shops reopen.

Residents have expressed that they would like people to show up to copwatch and help move belongings. Cars would be especially useful! Residents do not want reporters or people taking pictures of them present.

When: Tomorrow, Monday 4/12/21 @ 10AM

Where: Reading Terminal Market, 11th and Filbert

#OTG Cops have already barricaded around the encampment. They are not allowing residents back in to access their belongings, but telling them their stuff will not be thrown away and that they’re waiting for OHS to get there. Residents are angry they cannot access their belongings. More support requested.

#OTG Supporters gathering near the Reading Terminal entrance at 11th and Filbert. Cops have barricaded the 11th and 12th street sides. OHS has arrived. They let a resident back in but don’t appear to be letting people leave. Cops are walking around within the barricades talking to residents but not allowing supporters in to overhear. Some residents visibly upset.

#OTG Cops arbitrarily holding up residents attempting to get to their stuff at the barricades, aggravating them further before allowing them back in. Supporters still not allowed in. Some residents approaching us at the barricades thanking those who came out for support and saying they don’t know where they’re expected to go. Crowd is growing. #evictioncrisis

#OTG Supporters still not being allowed in to witness and help move belongings. No residents have been allowed to leave the barricades with their belongings yet. They have been barricaded in while cops and OHS try to force inadequate “solutions” on them such as shelters, many of which are triggering and unrealistic to residents. Supporters waiting to be able to help those who don’t want city services move their belongings.

#OTG The city has pulled in a trash truck before allowing residents to move. Supporters, even those who are friends of residents and being requested, still not allowed in. Resident belongings actively being trashed by the city.
