Forwarded from PHILADELPHIA JAIL SUPPORT
Action Attendees: write the Up Against the Law number on your arm. If you are arrested, which is sometimes unforeseeable, calling Up Against the Law will help us track you and try to get you out of precinct faster.
#scanner Police sending bike officers from 6th and Market to the Convention Center
#scanner Reminder to police to use de escalation techniques and keep calm. Let’s hope they heed that advice and keep themselves under control.
The Jail Support broadcast is active. Note: all telegram channels are public, please share links privately and with this consideration.
💜 What is jail support? When an action happens, sometimes comrades are arrested. Jail Support is organizing to support those who have been targeted and arrested by police to make sure they get out and home safely. Anyone can join jail support and become a jail supporter.
💙We work with Up Against the Law to get support out where needed. If you think a loved one has been arrested at an action, reach out to Up Against the Law with their name and birthdate. See this link regarding calling for an arrested loved one: https://www.instagram.com/p/CCmDXuFFZGn/?igshid=1htbfxotjvy6w
💚Philadelphia Jail Support Telegram Broadcast will be in contact to let supporters know where people are being held, and upon release those comrades often need food, water, a working phone, rides home, and legal information if they have charges or a citation. This is organizing and revolutionary work to make sure comrades are accounted for, not alone, and to show that we show up for community when police terrorize.
🧡 What can YOU do? The most important part of Jail Support is to have supporters on the ground outside the precincts where people are being released to give support in shifts. People waiting and those being released need food, water, some medical supplies, cigarettes, blankets, hand sanitizer, disposable masks, sometimes tarps and ponchos. You can ask loved ones to come with you and support together. There's no special skillset needed to be a jail supporter. Always consider your safety first.
-On the ground supporters can check in with admins if they need to leave, please use your network to coordinate shifts if coverage is needed (If comrades are still being held at that location.)
-Food can be made and brought, keep in mind COVID considerations and send items that can be individually wrapped or separated easily.
-If you have a car and can offer rides to those being released, please let the admins know and someone on the ground know. No one should get into a car with a stranger or someone they feel uncomfortable with.
-at this time we are not taking monetary donations. We will keep everyone updated if this changes.
❤TO JOIN: @jailsupportphl
Updates will be made here if comrades are arrested. If you would like to be involved/be a shift messenger back to the admins, join and keep an eye out.
