And this is justified? We call bullcrap.
And yes, mental health professionals have dealt with these exact situations all over the country and in places with strong programs they have been able to reduce the number of deaths and violence, much as our director Celine is quoted as saying in this very article, John:

"An local activist group, Berks Stands Up, has called the shooting an unnecessary use of force.
Celine Schrier, lead organizer of Berks Stands Up, told the Reading Eagle a week after the shooting that mental health experts should have first been called to Hughes' house.
"In this moment, this was a man who was in distress," Schrier said. "If it had been health care responders, I believe it would have unfolded differently."
Adams said mental health workers are not trained to respond to such dangerous situations."
