Statement from ACT UP Philly about the police violence they experienced today

Anyone who wants to hold space for those still waiting treatment from the police violence today, people are still gathered at Jefferson Hospital ER. It's expected to be a long night as the ER is full. Even once they are released from Jefferson it could be hours til they are arraigned and released. This will be a marathon jail support. Pacing is key.

And if you have photos or video from tonight DO NOT post on socials. Pigs will be looking for info to make up their lies about what happened tonight.

The city is planning to sweep Kensington encampments beginning at 4am TONIGHT August 4th, and also on the 5th, and 6th, from Harrowgate to McPherson square park, targeting people who use and sell drugs.

Some have been engaged in this work for decades. Some for months, weeks, days. We have seen new comrades join the struggle, excited to find community, a place to grow and organize - for many, a chosen family. And we have been heartbroken to see beloved comrades go.

Every member of our community has a profound impact on us all. Our actions, noticed and not, all add up to the solidarity and love that make our lives together so precious. That unsteadiness and uncertainty can feel relentless, but we know that in order to continue the fight that brought us together, we must care for one another. And so we will.

#scanner Police are keeping eyes on the area of the ICE building in anticipation of a protest there this afternoon.

Rally at 2 PM in front of the Philly ICE office demanding ICE stop opening new detention centers and free our remaining community members detained at York County Prison. Transfers further separate loved ones from their support networks and legal representation, especially if they are transferred out of region. This is especially harmful to those who have families and are no longer able to see their children. FREE THEM ALL!
