Strike termination laws

I am a young worker in the mechanic business and I’m fed up with selling my time for basic necessities and I will be striking on October 15th. I am worried about the employment repercussions when it comes to striking. Does anyone have any knowledge on the rights I have to strike?

Why only 1 day?

The reality of the situation is that striking only 1 day will not do a damn thing to these multimillion dollar corporations. We need to really make them hurt. We need to make them feel the struggle that we have been feeling for so long. Most importantly through all this, we really need to look out for and take care of each other. Buy only from your local farms or your neighbor who makes soap on Etsy. We need to STARVE them as we have been starving for so long. I propose we Strike not just for a day, but for a whole month. And if our strike hasn't had the desired effect after a month we must keep going. They expecting us to just phase out and walk away like Wall Street. We must hold strong. We must realize that standing up for what we believe in,has consequences and for that we must be brave. We must not let them threaten nor intimidate us.. because they will try. They will do everything they can to make us meek, obedient slaves. Realize this is our time. We are no longer in the Matrix. Their system is broken. Our system is broken. It's high time to create our own beautiful world. And I propose we make them strike out all taxes period. We deserve to keep every fucking penny we earned. I propose term limits on ever politician of no more then 4 years. After that, they have to get a real job. I propose community College be completely free. And I propose, we make them stop ignoring the issue of homelessness as every human being deserves love and decency. Who's fucking with me???!

Informing Employer about the Strike

I am a young worker planning to strike in October, I am wondering what I should tell my boss about the strike. I am also curious as to how long we think the strike will last. I have never been part of large scale collective action before so I don't really know what to expect.

Mutual Aid

If y’all are actually serious about this strike and don’t intend it to be a useless one day thing, start saving your fucking money. Lots of people aren’t going to last a single week without pay and there goes your strike. Pooling resources together is going to be as essential as getting the numbers needed to affect any actual change. Start a fund to pay for rent and food for those who won’t be able to afford it without any income. If not, delete the fucking subreddit because this is grandstanding at best and a psy-op at worst.

Hi, channel owner here. This is currently my opinion of the October Strike. That said, I think that anyone who takes interest in strike movements should take time to join the IWW and attend the OT101 training. That training will give you the tools to organize your workplace, and, ultimately, the tools to go on strike.

All power to the workers.

Strike on Big Corps

Instead of just using this subreddit as a way to promote the october strike why not find new and unique ways to disrupt the system. why not see how many people we could try to get to not use google for a day or youtube for a week. The best and biggest way to hurt these companies is with our wallets. How can we not band together and say for a day or two to not use reddit? There has to be a way to get our voices heard in the months ahead. If thousands of people shut of auto renewal on netflix for a month or two?

On Monday 7/26, they’re holding actions in at least 40 states to demand:
1. End the filibuster
2. Pass all provisions of the For the People Act
3. Fully restore the 1965 Voting Rights Act
4. Raise the federal minimum wage to $15/hr

We all know the numbers in wealth inequality. There are more of us than there are of them, let’s look to our elders in these significant times.

Non-american here, how can I help.

Hi, I'm a non-american (living in Canada 🇨🇦 to be exact) but am a strong advocate for workers rights and a living wage minimum wage.

I'm wondering, is there any way I can help support this movement? weather through donation or other means, I'd be more than happy to help.

I love this cause and I believe that our money is our power, I already abstain from shopping at Walmart and Amazon and try my best to shop local.

General strike as a platform not an organization

This needs to be a decentralized movement by and for all working class people. A successful movement has a concrete platform with people utilizing their resources and skillsets and moving into roles, affinity groups, and leadership as needed.

Im apprehensive about the credibility of this movement to be effective with the lack of transparency around who is identifying as organizers. If we want credible organizations onboard we need self identified organizers of this movement to step down from identifying as gatekeepers of this movement.

It is not only irresponsible but dangerous for people without training and experience in the role to identify as organizers. This is not a jab at anyone im sure is well intended.. But this is a decentralized platform not an organization.

“Democracy Is Not A State. It Is An Act.“ -John Lewis 888-453-3211

Today marks the one year anniversary of the passing of civil rights leader, Congressman John Lewis.

It’s beautiful to see so many people coming together here to take collective action. The fight for healthcare, worker’s rights, human rights, and climate justice are all connected. Our democracy is a step-wise system that starts with us voting people that will fight for us into office.

Voting rights are under attack in 48 states right now. There is a bill the senate will vote on to address this: the For the People Act (S. 1/H.R. 1). When this bill becomes law: the rules for voting will be the same in all 50 states, we will have online and automatic voter registration, there will be transparency in political donations$$$, voting districts will be decided through independent organizations, and so many more protections that are over-due in our democratic system.

There are bills that address the issues that this strike is demanding. Passing the For the People Act into law is the first step in knowing every citizen has the ability to elect a government that works for us, a government who will vote these bills into law on our behalf. It’s all connected!

Here comes the “act” part- Call 888-453-3211 to get connected with your senators. Ask if they are in support of the For the People Act. If yes, thank them for their support. If no, say “As your constituent, I urge you to vote to pass the For the People Act.” Phone calls can be scary, but that’s all you need to say. Calls get tallied. Call every day. The more they get, the more urgent the matter will be. https://dfadcoalition.org/takeaction/#call

Change doesn’t happen by one action or event. Call your senators now then strike in October. It’s all connected! Democracy works if you work it!

“Contractors”

Shouldn’t we also demand an end to businesses classifying what are practically full-time employees as private contractors?
